Song of the Day: Charlie – “Spacer Woman”
Released: 1983
Single
“Spacer Woman” is one of those songs that the general public is totally unfamiliar with, but it’s also heralded as a classic by Italo Disco diehards. “Spacer Woman” came together when Firefly’s Maurizio Cavalieri recruited his friend Giorgio Stefani to help write the song and lyrics. Cavalieri had been inspired by newer synth pop acts like Depeche Mode and Heaven 17 to produce a track that would sound more electronic and futuristic than his previous work. With lyrics inspired by an Isaac Asimov character (Gladia Delmarre), and vocals sung through a vocoder by Stefani’s wife, they nailed the futurist disco sound they were aiming for. It really sounds nothing like Cavalieri’s work with pretty conventional Italian disco trio Firefly. This is what you’d expect to hear at a nightclub in the original Blade Runner‘s fictionalized version of LA.
Lyrics
I’m a Spacer Woman
Don’t you worry ’bout me?
I don’t want to hurt you
I just want to love you!
We can start it over
Come on be my lover
You will be my danger
Let me be your stranger!
I’m a Spacer Woman
Don’t you worry ’bout me?
I don’t want to hurt you
I just want to love you!
We can start it over
Come on be my lover
You will be my danger
Let me be your stranger!
I want to know
I need your love
I can’t go on
I must be sure
I come from Space
I want to know
If I can do
My love is true
I’m a Spacer Woman
Don’t you worry ’bout me?
I don’t want to hurt you
I just want to love you!
We can start it over
Come on be my lover
You will be my danger
Let me be your stranger!
I’m a Spacer Woman
Don’t you worry ’bout me?
I don’t want to hurt you
I just want to love you!
We can start it over
Come on be my lover
You will be my danger
Let me be your stranger!
I want to know
I need your love
I can’t go on
I must be sure
I come from Space
I want to know
If I can do
My love is true
