NY Press "Rock Off" @ Avalon & Spider Club | 11/13/06

The NY PRESS hosted it's first ever "Rock Off" on Monday, November 13th. Day Glow, The GoStation, Locksley, and Hepburn all played sets, competing for the title of best unsigned band. While the opening set by Day Glow was less than impressive, The GoStation and Locksley followed with exceptional performances. The GoStation shoegazed the crowd with a sound reminiscent of classic Stone Roses and Oasis, while Locksley's '60s melodies won over the judges (later being named winner of the battle of bands). Hepburn pretty much turned in a cookie-cutter modern rock performance with occasional flashes of something unique. After Locksley was named best unsigned band, the small crowd that remained was lucky enough to see headliner, The Picture prove why their one of NYC's best kept secrets. See the flyer I designed for the event here.

Phoenix Foundation @ Union Pool | 11/5/06

New Zealand's Phoenix Foundation played a wonderful post-CMJ afternoon set at Brooklyn's Union Pool on Sunday November 5. As with all of the times I have been able to see them, Phoenix Foundation mesmerized with a beauty far too great for them to remain relatively unknown in the States. The Lord of the Rings jokes again made for good stage banter.

CMJ 06 | 10/31/06-11/4/06

CMJ is one long exhausting ride, and I was exhausted before I ever got on, but I got to see quite a few amazing bands, and snap shots of them. Stay tuned for a full review on BrooklynRecord.com.
