Your New Favorite Band: Paul & The Patients
Paul & The Patients
From: Brooklyn, NY
RIYL: The Arctic Monkeys, Billy Idol, Wings
Paul & The Patients may not yet have a full length record, but look closely at their last year and you'll see a prolific songwriter in Paul Holmes. Aside from a 5 song EP released in mid 2009, Paul & The Patients have been self-releasing a song a week for the past 15 weeks. It's no easy task, and what has made this song-a-week problem so remarkable is the level of songs coming out of it. Each of these songs are gems.
To celebrate the 15 week mark, the band and their label American Myth Recordings put together a 5 song sampler of some of the best recordings to come out of the project. "Tiny Red Light," "Sensitive," "Best Of Me," "The Best of People, The Worst of Things," and "Bartending" do a great job at acting as highlights, but don't for a second think that these are the only songs worth hearing.
Recent additions "Second Hand Smoke" and "Twenty Seven" are probably my personal favorites from the series.

Paul Holmes Immortalizes Balloon Boy with 2 Songs
After scouring northern Colorado by foot and air, frantically chasing a Mylar balloon for miles and repeatedly interviewing his big brother, authorities ended the search for 6-year-old Falcon Heene where it began -- at his house.
6-year-old Falcon Heene says he was hiding in a box in the attic while authorities were searching for him.
He was in a box. In the attic. The whole time. —as reported by CNN
All day today people kept up to date with the continuing saga of Falcon, a young boy who had apparently set adrift in a hot air balloon. All over the internet people were twittering, facebooking, and blogging all about "balloon boy." We found out that his family had been on Wife Swap not once but twice. We worried about his safety, and wondered why we hadn't done this as kids.
Amused by the whole spectacle, Paul & The Patients lead singer Paul Holmes wrote a song in honor of Falcon titling it "Hot Air Balloon."

Not long after, it was discovered that Falcon had actually been hiding in a cardboard box in the attic, Holmes jumped at the chance to write the follow up, "Cardboard Box."
Paul & The Patients will be playing multiple shows during next week's CMJ Music Marathon. Maybe they'll even play one of these 2 brand new songs.
